Friday’s truck
What goes on Friday’s truck, and which lines do we stop carrying altogether?

Buyer’s note · Suggests nothing, and four cases are going on anyway. Exterior season runs to October and a three-day lead does not help on the Saturday it runs out.

Twelve of 9,400 SKUs. A line joins this list when it has sold in eight consecutive weeks and left the shelf empty at least once — the rest are counted quarterly and ordered on sight, which is honest about the fact that nobody is watching them.
Lines with something on them
5 of 12
7 are having nothing ordered and still appear, so their absence is a decision rather than an omission
A list that orders something on every line is a list nobody reads.
Order value
$1,503
against $2,140, the average of the last four Fridays
Low because two long-lead lines were caught early and are small.
First on the list
Bypass pruner
5.8 days of cover against a 21-day lead — 22 days short of the earliest a replacement could land
Not the shortest cover in the shop. The bird seed has four days and a supplier eight days away, which is a smaller hole.
How this list is ordered
- 1Days of cover: what is on hand and on order, divided by what it sells in a day.
- 2The reorder point is the supplier's lead time plus 7 days, because the next truck is the earliest anything can land.
- 3Rank is cover minus lead time. A line with six days of cover and a three-week lead is in more trouble than one with four days and a next-day supplier.
- 4The suggestion is the shortfall rounded up to whole cases. Nothing is sold in sevens.
- 5A line with cover past its reorder point is ordered nothing, and still appears, so its absence is a decision rather than an omission.
Nothing on this screen places an order. It is the argument for one — and where you disagree with it, the suggestion stays printed beside your figure, because a list that quietly forgets what it recommended cannot be audited in a month.
What this deliberately does not rank by
Units sold. The best-selling line in the shop is blue painter’s tape and it does not need ordering, because sixty-three rolls at twelve a week is five weeks of cover against a three-day lead. The line that will actually cost a sale on Saturday is the eight-inch pruner: six a week, five on the shelf, and twenty-one days from a supplier who ships once a fortnight.
Sorting by what moves puts the tape at the top of every list forever and the pruner near the bottom until the day it is gone. That is the failure this screen exists to stop, and it is why lead time is in the sort rather than in a column beside it.
