Handover

The house has to be operable by somebody who has never met us.

Including the next owner, and including whoever is house-sitting in three years. That is why the guide is laminated and in a drawer rather than in an email.

  1. A printed panel guide

One page per floor, laminated, in a drawer. What each keypad button does, in words. The house has to be operable by somebody who has never met us.

  2. Every password, written down

In a sealed envelope and in whatever password manager you use. The single most common failure we are called to fix is an installer who kept the credentials.

  3. The design file

Yours. Any competent installer can pick the system up from it. We are not interested in being difficult to replace.

  4. A walk round, twice

Once on handover day and once a fortnight later, when you have actually lived with it and have the real questions.

  5. What we did not do

A written list of what was out of scope and what we would do next if you wanted it. Nobody has ever been annoyed by this list.

We are not interested in being difficult to replace.

A system another installer cannot pick up is a system that has trapped you, and there is a whole business model in this trade built on exactly that. Ours is not it. The design file is yours and it is written to be handed to somebody else.
