  10. Tankless water heater replacement

Like-for-like swap where gas line and venting are already correct.

Not flat when: First-time conversion from tank to tankless is a different job and is always quoted.

The other 10

Two trucks. Houses built before 1940, mostly. The number on this page is the number on the invoice, and every row says the situation where it stops applying — which is the part other price lists leave out.

No overnight service. If you have a leak at two in the morning, shut the main off and ring at seven.

Copper and brass plumbing fittings sorted into blue parts bins.
Fittings in the bins on the van. Illustrative — not Cast Iron's own stock.

Old Pittsburgh houses have six specific problems.

Galvanised supply, cast iron stacks, clay laterals with roots, lead bends, a shared flue, and no cleanout. Knowing which one you have explains most of what a plumber will say to you, so it is written out rather than kept as leverage.

The six, and how to spot them

Same day for no water or an active leak, most weekdays. Two to four days for everything else. You will be given a real day rather than put on a list.
