Ageing

Which cards have been sitting longer than anything that has actually shipped from that stage?

Oldest card

14 days

Ephrata Family Practice in Bench, where the median is 8 days

Blocked, and the block is somebody else's to clear.

Past the upper quartile

3 of 14

cards older than three quarters of everything that shipped from the same stage this quarter

Three is ordinary. Six would mean the wall has stopped moving.

Ageing because they are blocked

3 of 3

separated deliberately — a card waiting on a hinge delivery is not a card the shop is slow at

All of them, this week. Nothing on the wall is ageing because a bench is slow — every old card is waiting on somebody outside the shop.

How a card gets on this list

  1. 1Days in stage is counted from the scan that moved it in, not from the day the job was sold.
  2. 2The comparison is the spread of every card that has left that stage this quarter — twelve of them per stage.
  3. 3Ageing means older than three quarters of that spread. It is not a deadline and nothing happens automatically.
  4. 4Blocked cards keep ageing. A stopped clock would hide exactly the delays worth arguing about.

The clock is on the card, never on a person. Days in stage is a property of the work; who was at that bench is not on this screen and is not going to be.

Why there is no target line

A target invites the wrong argument. If detailing is nominally five days, a card at six is a failure and a card at four is fine — even though the four-day card was a repeat of last year’s job and the six-day one is a library circulation desk nobody has drawn before.

The spread does not make that mistake. It says how unusual a card is, which is the only thing the number can honestly support.

Every live card · longest in stage first

Every live job with the stage it is in, days in stage, the stage median, where its age falls against every card that shipped from that stage this quarter, hours still owed, and its due date.
