Everything under thirty dollars, and why.
Woodstock, Portland · noon to eight, closed Monday
Every bottle carries a handwritten card. The shelf is the site.
Sold out today — Oregon pinot noir, Willamette; Rye whiskey, straight. Back within a week or two, and the card here will say when.
Six from the shelf
Written the way Bea says it across the counter. No leather, no tobacco, no notes of anything.
Wine
$14
Vinho Verde, Portugal
Sharp, faintly fizzy, and low enough in alcohol that a glass at lunch is a glass at lunch.
Eat with Anything fried. It is the best six dollars you will ever spend on a Tuesday.
Wine
$19
Cotes du Rhone, southern France
Dark, dusty, and a bit peppery. The one people mean when they say a red for a weeknight.
Eat with A roast chicken, sausages, or a lentil thing on a cold night.
Wine
$28
Oregon pinot noir, Willamette
Light enough that people who say they do not like red wine usually like this one. Tart red fruit and not much weight.
Eat with Salmon, mushrooms, or a Thanksgiving table.
Sold out
Wine
$22
Dry Riesling, Finger Lakes
Bone dry despite what people assume about Riesling. Sharp, faintly of lime.
Eat with Anything with chilli in it. This is the bottle for takeaway Thai.
Wine
$17
Beaujolais, Villages
Bright and juicy, best slightly cold, which surprises people about a red.
Eat with Charcuterie, or a picnic, or a hot day when you still want red.
Wine
$16
Cava, brut nature
Properly dry with no sweetness at the end. Better value than anything from Champagne at three times the price.
Eat with Crisps. Genuinely. Also oysters, if that is the sort of evening it is.
Every bottle in here has a card on the shelf saying what it tastes like in ordinary words and what to eat with it. The cards are on this site too, so you can decide before you come and nobody has to ask a stranger for permission to like something.

bottles under thirty dollars
That is not a budget section. It is the shop. The shelf between fifteen and thirty is where nearly all the good value in wine lives and almost nobody stocks it properly.
Nobody here will make you feel stupid.
That is the entire reason this shop exists in the shape it does. Ask for something sweet, or something like the one you had at a wedding, or something that goes with a frozen pizza. All three are answerable questions and all three get a straight answer.
You must be 21 or over to buy alcohol here or to have it delivered. ID is checked every time, at the counter and at the door.
